My husband and I have been hiking Mt. Washington for the past 8 years, on average twice a month, in the summer and winter. It seems as though the amount of traffic on the Lion's Head winter route has grown by leaps and bounds in the last three years. I'm all for getting more people out and enjoying the mountain but this route seems to be a bit too much for a lot of the people we see. (ie, they're frozen in place or climbing on their hands and knees). Unfortunately, due to wind or avalanche postings, it's often the most judicial route to the summit. Does anyone know if the AMC or WMNF has considered opening an alternate route for winter travel from Pinkham?
