It is time to start thinking about snow. There is plenty of time to still think about summer but, one must be begin to prepared for snow of winter.

The rules are pretty simple:

Select the day when the daily F6 report shows 2.0" or more of new snow for that date.

There can only be one entry for a day. Whoever gets their post in first has that date.

If your date has past and there has not been 2.0" or more new of snow, you are out - in the cold.

You may only enter once *.

If you work for a company that alters the weather, makes snow over 6,000 feet, or can move mountains to be under snow clouds - you are not allowed to enter.

Let the best snowman or woman win!

* Once all day's selected have gone by, a 5 day period to allow entries will be open to allow a second guess to take place - not that I'm expecting that to happen, but you never know.

It's hard to believe that October has been such a lean month for any snow accumulation this year. I tried my best for 10/10! :D

Many of us Auto Roadies were talking about this over the last several weeks. I've only got 10 years under my belt so I'm still a newbie, but this Fall has been universally recognized among our staff as unusually mild and and downright balmy for the most part. Used to be we expected a good pasting of white stuff just about Fryeburg Fair time, leading to iconic photos of peak foliage color below treeline with solid white above 4300 feet. Indian Summer was what we referred to as having a Columbus Day Weekend open to the summit. This fall, we had a very few minor hiccups that delayed opening, and of course our last Day 10-20- 13 we were only open to halfway due to snow and rime. I don't remember any Fall season in the 10 years when the dahlias, zinnias and other annuals in the Tollhouse flower bed were still brilliant on closing day. Usually they've been long to the compost pile.

I was in North Conway last week and it was def. much too warm. Didn't need jackets, even at night and slept with the windows open. On the 17th I wore shorts and and people were swimming in Echo Lake, I like a good October chilll when I am there that time of year.

I was up in North Conway from September 20th to the 25th. I'll have to say the weather was very nice most of the time. A few days were warm but the evenings were cool. I hiked Mount Madison on the 24th & it was pretty windy & cold compared to the previous days. I happened to stop by Echo Lake to take some pictures one afternoon & the last thing on my mind was swimming. It wasn't particularly warm that day. In fact there wasn't a single other person there. I didn't even see anyone who may have been working there. Anyone swimming there now is a lot braver than me!! Anyway, I like the forecast. Let's see what it brings...

The Higher Summits Forecast mentions a chance of snow showers for today and tonight. Can the atmosphere deliver enough to bring a win for whitemtnvisitor? We shall see tomorrow. :)

2.2 inches of snow fell on the summit on 11/8. This officially ends the contest and it looks like whitemtnvisitor is the winner. Congrats on the victory!

It took a while to get started, but it will be fun to watch the snow accumulation numbers grow quickly now.
