View Full Version : Conditions for Tuckerman Trail

Hi there,

I saw on Mount Washington Avalanche Center this morning that the Tuckerman Trail has a significant amount of ice on it. Just wanted to see if anyone has been up recently and could comment on what they found and used for traction, crampons vs. micro-spikes. Any other comments on the conditions would be great!

A good place to check Tuckerman Ravine Trail conditions is here: (http://www.outdoors.org/recreation/tripplanner/go/backcountry-weather.cfm)

Looks like microspikes will get you to Hermit Lake. You do not state your intentions, but I would add that people do not generally go up Tuck's to the summit as it is most definitely a technical climb in winter, but take the Lion Head winter route instead.

Another place to check trail conditions is here: (http://www.newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/)

I see no recent reports on Tuck's, but good place to check, anyway.

Thanks very much for the sites. Our plan would be to go for a summit attempt via the winter route. I'm fine with staying out of the way of falling ice chunks!

There is one report for Washington via Lions Head from a few days ago.

TrailsNH.com aggregates trip reports all of the hiking site so you can find the one you are looking for.
