Cool new forum. Thanks. You need a miscellaneous discussions forum though...

I agree. There should also be a place for help and discussions about things like the lack of avatars.

yeah, I do, but the requirements do not allow posting of anything over 9.8 K. Thats absurd. We need more space!

If it's a JPEG image, up the compression when you save it and that should do fine for a small sized image. This avatar for example is less than 6KB.

I uploaded a 150 pixel avatar and it was reduced to fit automatically. And now a forum on top of the rockpile. Too cool!
I'm originally from Boston, moved to LA for 5 years, then decided to live my dream and moved to The Whites. Now in the 23rd year of the happiest choice I ever made. Rock on!

Please pardon me for resurrecting an old thread. But I have a question about avatars which I couldn't find an answer for in the FAQs.

The avatar link/upload page states that custom avatars are limited to 50 x 50 pixels. Yet some of the avatars in use are 80 x 80. Is this due to my being a newbie? The other BBs I post on that use vBulletin all have 80 x 80 as the default avatar size, custom or BB gallery.

The reason for asking is the photo I'm using now loses a lot of detail when it goes from 80 x 80 to 50 x 50.

Thanks!

Hmm, if there's a setting governing avatar sizes, it's not listed under "Avatars". vBulletin can be unintuitive with its menu placement. I'll try to find out what the current avatar rule is.

When I go to my user control panel it says I can do 80x80 but it has to be less than 19.5kb.

My CP says

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 50 by 50 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

Interesting, the one you have right now is 80x60. I'll see what I can find.

Edit: What's more interesting is the guy who started this thread is just a spammer. Nothing malicious or inappropriate, but a spammer none the less.

Re the spammer, I'm pretty sure I've seen that message before on other BBs.

Avatar size is under "Usergroups". Who knew? Anyway, I made it 80x80 since some people already seemed to have that limit.

If he's a spammer then why not disable the link in his sig? :D
