Reference: What was the weather like when I hiked...

The observers get many questions about looking up data on a particular day that someone has hiked the mountain. There are a few great links to find this data at, and we hope that this helps quell curiosities.

First off, Plymouth State provides a Meteogram of the raw data, every hour back to 1998. The link is:

The station ID for MWO is 'KMWN'

For a little less technical graph of the data, try this site:
http://www.wx.rutgers.edu/sfc/obs.shtml
Again, 'KMWN' is the ID, and single line decoding is very easy for everyone to understand.

Hope this helps, now everyone can find records of their favorite/least favorite days on the summit.

Another good way to see the weather on the day you have hiked is to go to the MWO archived webcam images that Brad has been keeping up with.

You can find the date you climbed and go through the whole day of images from all five cameras and see the weather. Thanks Brad for taking the time to give us this valuable information.

I'm not sure that I understand the question, and before I come off sounding like a smart a.., note that I will come back upon further clarification and try again. So my point that needs clarification, do you mean the forecasts, or the observations themselves.

So here goes:
The observations are taken on or within a specified short distance from the summit station (the tower for wind, the observation deck for all other observations), and are valid ONLY at the location that they are taken.

Microclimatic variations necessitate that consistency of measurement is important, as weather conditions can vary greatly. As long as you measure apples to apples, you are getting good data.

The forecasts generated are verified at the summit station, but are put out for areas above treeline in the WMNF.

You will have to be more specific but JimS has nailed down everything I got from your question. But if you are still confused, reword your question and we will try to answer it better. Your question asks two seperate things we produce, a daily weather statement (forecast) and observations (METAR) so there is some confusion.

One thing some folks (me included) forget is the Conditions image has the 2-day summit forecast at the bottom of the image. this can be handy as we look back for past conditions.
