Who knows what the highest city in New England is?
We're talking about elevation here. For this case let's consider a city to have more than 10,000 people.
I think you'll be surprised what the answer is. Assuming I'm correct.

I would have guessed Berlin, but that seems too easy.

I'm gonna rule out anything south of Vermont and NH. It would have to be in the mountainous areas of either Maine, NH, or Vermont. Vermont doesn't have a lot of cities with 10,000 or more people in it. So a population of that size would most likely be along a river, which would keep it at lower elevations. Maine I would put in the same category as Vermont. So that leaves NH and the White Mountain region at that. And the only cities that large in that area would be Littleton and Berlin. Littleton is close to the Ct river so I'm gonna say it's elevation is probably lower than Berlin so I'm gonna go with Berlin as well!
Everyone wants to look north for the highest city in New England but I am going to look south. Pittsfield, Mass.
That's the answer I was looking for. At least according to the Rand McNally road atlas. At 1020 feet its 10 feet higher than Berlin, NH. Its also much bigger at close to 50,000 people.Quote:

Is Holyoke MA a possable answer ? MT Tom is there. Just a guess.
According to Rand McNally Holyoke is only 270 feet. Its in the Connecticut River Valley afterall.Quote:

Think about it though. The Androscoggin is pretty wild up there, lots of rocks and rapids. Its a mountain river at that point. Officially, Berlin is at 1010ft, just ten feet lower than Pittsfield. So who knows, the majority of Berlin could be well above 1020ft. But, Pittsfield does have substantially more people.Quote:
