In need of rescue on top of Mt Washington mid winter???
I know that all of the facilities on top of Mt Washington are closed to the public during the winter, but if someone was in need of rescue and close to the top could they crawl over there and bang on a window or something? Would you guys even here them? I've been up there in the winter and it looks pretty baron, I didn't see lights on inside or anything. I've been hiking in the White since I was young because I grew up in southern NH, and my friends and I have often discussed this question. I just found this website and you guys seem like the perfect people to ask.
All who climb Washington in winter should read Ryans post
Ryan very well put. Washington in winter is not a childs playground. If you get your self up to the top of the rock pile remember your only half way done. Between Lions head and Alpine Garden or on the other side at L.O.C. that is where the decision needs to be made. The conditions won't get any better heading up and most likely will get worse. I agree that goofers that need rescued should have to pay. People have to climb Washington in winter under the thinking that there is no one going to be on top.
