Nice one Brad. The only one I can find is a pic of myself as a youngin' somewhere near the summit. My guess is the cow pasture just off of the auto road, circa 1980? I guess trail signs don't...
Not really, just the shorter walk at the end of the trip. Actually, looking at my map you could save a chunk of time and mileage by taking the Raymond path down to Old Jackson Road. But I've never...
As noted, there is no camping near Spaulding lake and from what I've heard this area is patrolled and the rules enforced.
I LOVED the Great Gulf - best hiking trail on Mt. Washington. My first...
It should also be noted this route is not recommended when it's wet or as an option for descent.
That being said, it is a challenging but awesome route. Second only to the Great Gulf, IMO.

The fine people here have given you advice, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. The Great Gulf headwall is as hard as Huntington Ravine. Period. Some may quibble over this, but for a beginner...
Sorry for not getting back to the thread before your trip Gary....
To answer your question: Fleece pullover preferred, but the cotton-blend hoodie would be fine if you don't sweat in it too much...
Ideally one would go on several hikes of increasing difficulty before attempting a climb like Washington, but.....

Given the choices I chose Huntington, but the Great Gulf is my all-time favorite.
I know Max did it once way back in the day for the Hill Climb. I think he rode it just a few minutes faster than he ran it. (He's run it twice, some 20 years apart). I wanna say all times were...
Inside joke....
BTW, I agree with Post'rBoy and Bruno! :D
Nice to see you two on here. Brings the humor level up a few clicks, along with the in-yo-face dose of reality.

I had a real nice time hiking the Great Gulf trail all the way from Rt. 16. No crowds and excellent views. Had a great day to do it too: 55 degrees and sunny with 100+ mile visibility on top.

You can also check the status of Tuckerman Ravine via the US Forest Service website. Latest info is posted HERE
You should be all set then. Keep checking the web for updates on Tucks. Views From The Top has a trail conditions section that gets a lot of activity. Just another place for trail info.
I hope...
Nin is the resident feline of the observatory. His job seems to entail lounging around and chasing mice. He was named after the female writer Anais Nin, but it was shortened to just Nin when the...
I think that's the main reason they close it. We ventured down to the Alpine Garden and across to Lion's Head from the Auto Road last year on June 12, and found the Tuckerman Ravine Trail still...
