This forum needs some spam control, no?

Are there moderators here who can approve new members? I've run forums before and found it essential to have someone (or a trusted group) approve new memberships. It can be done quickly and easily through email, and it keeps out the spam bots.

I can't believe some of the filth that some of these fools get to sneak in on us here.

I told my wife that I found a very cool hiking forum called the MWO. I said it had great people on it with interesting stories mostly to do with hiking and climbing. She logged on a few days ago....the day that sick-o had about three threads going all at once about porn, and my wife said, wow Joe, very interesting site. I had to explain to her that that's not the norm here, it was just a spammer. I was pretty embarrassed to say the least!

When Bill gets back all that JUNK won't stand a chance. He is on enough to keep things clean. In the mean time if you look closely at the name of the spammer, most of the time you can tell they are bogus.

See that in white mountain hikes forum spam has been attached to Magic Mountain Dry River trip report. I thought it very interesting that this post came to the top and so I checked it out. Sure enough spam is attached. When they attach it to existing threads it is harder to pull it out.

In the mean time if you look closely at the name of the spammer, most of the time you can tell they are bogus.

I know. I can usually pick out the jerks, but my wife had no idea.

It's kinda stupid of them isn't it?

I have a MySpace account, being a musician and hiker.
I set it up letting who ever looks at my page, that I'm here
to meet musicians and hikers. I've met some great people.
But there's always the dumb porn fool that tries to slim his or
her way in. There's so many people wasting their time on
this planet, when they can be doing other more productive

Yes, it is amazing how many people are out there just wasting time doing thing like that. I would think that the majority of them are kids, sitting around the house, bored to death and finding things to do they think is funny, like spamming a hiking site?
