well i just got a call to confirm I'm in for the 7/14,15 trip .

the last time i was on top was 27 yrs ago when i went and hiked up with the explorer group i was with training for a clime on Mt McKinley [ it was cold up there].
then went last year but the top was closed due to high wind and fog ,so got to go up the 4300' or the 5300' spot i think thats what it was . it was better then nothing.

What do you mean the top was closed? Are you sure it wasn't just an advisory? When the weather is really bad, hikers are usually advised not to attempt a climb to the top, but an outright shutdown of all trails leading to the summit is something I've never heard of.

I'm pretty sure he's talking Auto Road. I ran into the same thing about 25 years ago when I made my first trip up with my 2 oldest sons who were like 4 and 5. All we saw was fog.

yes it was the auto road ,my wife and 2 girls wanted to go to the top and do not like hiking so we took the road .
