This hike drove home the need for proper footwear on the trail. I see way too many people out there in sneakers. Jude rolled her ankle twice on wet roots, the second being very bad, but luckily very near the end of the hike. I am completely convinced that this would have been disastrous if not for her sturdy hiking boots. Other than that it was an awesome day to be in the mountains. Rain ended in the morning and must have beat down the blackflies as we had a virtually bug free hike which is unheard of in June. Usually we won't hike in June as the bugs are so bad. Except for being wet, the trail was free and clear of snow and littered with the usual wildflowers. An absolutely gorgeous day.
