I will be coming up from Durham, NC and a friend will be joining us for the hike. He is from Chapel Hill, NC.

New Hampshire . . . just south of Franconia Notch.
I am truly blessed to have the White Mountains as my back yard.

You really are a dedicated hiker (or is it just Mt. Washington?)

I want to get up the courage to volunteer as a cook/dishwasher for the crew at the summit. I also have this burning desire to hike to the top before I can't. It must be something in the air!

Mt Washington is an emotional thing. If you fall in love with her, you keep on coming back. I have a log book of all the hikes starting with an estimate (pretty good one for the years up to my 30's - 40's). Then it is details of date, trails, who went and even some weather conditions. My total hiking to the summit is now just over 50 times. Last summer I did it 3 times including STP. This year i am a bit behind schedule with STP being my first hike up.

The summer camp I went to in NH had a Mt Washington Squad which was an honor trip. The staff selected who would go. Citizenship and support of others was as important as ability to do it. From that hike in 1959 I have been coming back for more each year. This year I will drive up from NC - take a day of rest - then join in the STP fun on Saturday. It is a great mountain - the trails are good - there is so much variety that each time up is different. But, one does have to watch out for the weather and be safe.
