I'm out and able to get around without a wheelchair now.

Thank you for the good wishes.
Why did I climb the mountain? Because I was there.

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

I had a debilitating stroke back in 2003 that put an end to my hiking activities. It's been downhill ever since. The latest problem was related to an infection in my right leg. Fortunately I still have the leg (it was a close call). But it's frustrating to realize my climbing days are over.

But at least I still some photos, which I will post to the Brad website shortly. Please be patient.

I went to see a hot air balloon event yesterday morning - but, it got fogged in. So, I headed to a few other spots in NC to take pictures (will upload them in a bit). Then this morning I was back at Statesville, NC for the balloons. Those pictures are at

My favorite was taken looking inside the balloon at the top as it was being filled with hot air.

I did the chase-the-vans routine to try to get pictures as they got set up several miles from the airport. Then they flew across the airport, dropped down by an X marker, dropped a bean bag on the marker (closest gets extra points) and then on to the tie down area. And I went back to the airport to get pictures there. Amazing they have that much control.

I am not sure which is harder - getting close enough in a balloon to drop a bean bag on a marker - or, pick the snow depth on MW for October.

Sounds like you had a nice day! I would like to take a ride in a hot air balloon one day. It looks like a blast!...(of hot air)
    Nice pics too!

Nope. And let's just say you are more than a few days off.

As a caveat I am talking about the majority of New England, not southern hemisphere, and not the summit of Mount Washington.

I'm gonna say Dec 21, since it is the shortest day of the year in the NH
