Anyone been up the Lion Head trail recently? May do an ascent of Washington this weekend & I'm hoping that someone can provide a bit of info on trail conditions.

Yes, we went up on Sunday. Not to much ice at this point. None of us had to use traction, as you could still get a hard boot into the snow pretty easily. Coming down above tree-line there were some spots that crampons could have helped. We just took it slow were we need to.
Overall the trail was nice.
Thanks for the advise Kaseri

No problem, I'm glad it worked out for you.
Do you have any idea where the snow line is currently? Hermit Lake is at about 4k. Was there any snow to speak of at that elevation?
Snow started around 3000ft. Seemed like about 3/4 to 1/2 mile before Hermits.

Any idea how much was on the ground at Hermit Lake ?
If you go to the MWO site's Weather - Higher Summits Forecast page there is a link in the lower right to trail conditions. As we get into winter this will be a good source of information.Originally Posted by kaseri

The cover seemed like 3 to 5in. The snow was pretty well packed down.

You do realized that as of today this all means nothing.
Not to mention, today's conditions are going to be a very different from this weekend.
Yeah... I know. I really wish that the snow was sticking around.
Of course after tonight's snow fall, it's a solid idea to bring crampons, snowshoes, and a 100' or more of rope this w/e.
Have fun playing safely in the mountains!
