These cameras are approaching the quality one would need for printed merchandise; magnets, buttons, post cards, shirts, thimbles, etc. I'm thinking of a holographic t-shirt with a timelapse sunset.

Due to a power shortage, the Ravines cam and Auto Road Vertical Temperature Profile are offline. This communication relies on solar panels and 12 volt batteries on the summit of Wildcat. This is the time of year when snow and clouds obscure what little sun their is.

I still remain confident that our recent changes to Wildcat will conserve enough juice to keep it online longer. We just need several days of sun to give us a nice charge.

Would'nt a small wind turbine be a good compliment to back up the solar panels? I don't recall ever seeing rime ice up on Wildcat.

Perhaps it would. I haven't worked with the small wind generators such as those used on Lakes of the Clouds Hut. It is totally untrodden territory for us at the Obs, although I'm sure the AMC folks would gives us some advice if asked. The deal-breaker might be acquiring permission from the Forest Service. Wildcat is part of public land, so we would need permission to add devices to your land.
