    Default Summit Building

Will the Mount Washington Summit Building be open this weekend?

We're planning to hike up Jefferson(capps ridge), to Washington, then down the southern presidentials or up Huntington to Washington then down the southern presidentials(which do you suggest?).

Default check with Pinkham for climbing info.

Give Pinkham a call and they can tell you if the summit building is open or not. Also as far as best route your best bet is to wait and see what the weather is the day you climb. Mid October you pretty much set route to weather. Huntington in ice or snow would not be real fun. Another option is boot spur which if weather is bad gives you an option to skip Washington and still do the southern route by using the Camel trail. The one problem with Boot Spur and Camel Trail is that you are Extremely exposed. Keep this in mind if you chose this route.

The scheduled closing date for the Sherman Adams summit building is 10-22. However, this is highly dependent on weather. During this time of year you want to be self-sufficient on the trail, just in case the door is locked when you reach the summit.

I can't imagine what conditions would make Huntington easier than Caps Ridge. The former is a 1000 foot vertical ascent and the latter starts from the highest trail head in the Northeast. Hungtington is the hardest trail on the mountain, but be sure to assess the forecast and your fitness level before making your decision.

we've done huntington before. yes...it's scary for those who don't like heights but it's not that physicaly hard as it is mentaly hard. I believe we'll be taking capps though as that's one we've neaver done before.

    thank you for the info.
