Tuckermans - just above HoJo's

My son in law and I went to the rise above HoJo's this morning. what a great day for a hike! We were back at the car at 12:30 PM after having a wonderful time. Met some nice folks on the trail - hopefully, they will join the forum.

Stopped at the MWO offices in N Conway on the way home just to say hi to the folks.

Looking very wintry up there. How was the fog/undercast in the valley? Looked amazing on the webcams.

When we got to the first "flat" stretch with a good view we could not see much on the way up due the clouds coming in a bit. Other than that, we did not see any clouds.

Great shots Brad! You had a nice warm day. Hillman's and Left Gully looked pretty good, but Right Gully and Lion Head looked pretty bony. What were the avalanche warnings today? Were those guys climbing Hillman's to ski? It didn't look like it.

Kevin, the weather could not have been much better. Very light breeze or none at all. Very warm in the sun. Just a great chance to get out and stretch. Considering my conditioning (or lack thereof), I did pretty well. It was 1 hour 30 minutes to HoJo's and 1 hr 10 minutes down. The trail was packed with icy spots. You did have to be careful and have good traction - especially coming down.

Hillman's looked pretty good if you don't worry about the snow up top on the ridge. I did not look closely for the warnings. Heard stories of a group heading up Lions Head who sounded like they had little to no experience. Their idea of a plan for getting down if Lions Head was a problem was to go down Tuckermans Ravine Trail. Hope they did okay out there.

Yeah, I guess they had little experience. I'm sure it could be done if the conditions were right and they had the equipment. Just seems it would be much easier to descend the way they came.

An acquaintance of mine is trying to set a record for the quickest winter ascent of New Hampshire's 48 4K's. He traversed from Adams to Jackson today. They had great weather, not sure how they did yet. He hiked the 48 in September in 11 days, continuous, meaning he hiked the distances between the mountains, too. Carrying his gear to camp each night. He's not a young guy either, he's 38. He does push ups on each summit to mark which number he's on. If he's on the 36th mountain, he does 36 pushups. Sounds like a hoax, but it is verifiable by the many folks who join him for a portion of his marathons.

I was thinking of him when I was looking at your pictures. I was glad to see they had good weather today.

Don't know why but only 2 of the 58 photos show up for me. I tried on both my laptop and PC. even tried logging in. Wish I could see them!

I see the places for the pictures and even the image numbers in the boxes but no pics. I tried to run the slideshow and it runs through the images but it's all black, no images. If I try to click on an image for a larger view I don't get anything there either.
