Wildcats & her kittens! Saturday, October 21
This is a moderate loop hike to add 2 more 4k's mountains from this collection of 5 on the ridge. We'll meet at the Nineteen Mile Trailhead on the east side of Route 16, about 4 miles north of the AMC Pinkham Notch Center, 1 mile north of the Mt Washington Auto Road and 1/2 mile south of Camp Dodge. Gear up and be ready for an 8:30 am start.
The group will carspot at Nineteen Mile Brook Trail and drive to the start route, the Wildcat Ridge Trail near Glen Ellis Falls. We'll hike to the summit of Wildcat "D" peak (4062'), rest, and take in the spectacular views. Then continue on the ridge, for more stunning views and to summit Wildcat Mtn (4422'). We'll descend into Carter Notch, visit Carter Lakes, stop at the open Carter Notch Hut, which is a year round self-serve hut. Bring what you wish and use their free kitchen facilities. Instant hot chocolate, tea, coffee and instant soup is recommended. We'll return to our cars via the gentle Nineteen Mile Trail.
Crampons should be brought on each hike now through May '07. Cold weather/wind gear is required. This loop hike is 8.7 miles, with 3,150 feet of elevation gain, and a book time of 6 hours that will likely take us 7 hours. Previous hiking experience is required. Write or post to let me that you will be joining us. Make new friends, meet old friends!
