Default New Lion Head Winter Route

Does anybody remember when they changed the winter route to its current location?

I seem to remember they moved the route after an avalanche destroyed the old route. Were climbers caught in this avalanche?

They made a new, safer trail after a snow slide wiped out the old one. But a small group of climbers dismissed the new trail and chose to use the old route anyway. This group was inevitably caught in an avalanche.

    Default new lion head

Bill - it was sometime in the mid 90's - I don't know the exact year, but if I had to guess, I would say 95 or 96.

    Thanks.

I dug up some more information:

The trail was moved because summer landslides had created new avalanche paths.

My friends and I took the lions head route Febuary 07. From what I can recall it was the winter route but im not possitive. Anyway I was wondering if there are avalanche dangers on the current lions head route.
