    Default Mt Liberty - 2/16

The weather forecast was good, so we headed out to Mt Liberty last Saturday. It was our 4th Winter 4K of the year, and 7th overall. We had a great walk and got to meet several members of the Views From The Top forum along the way.

Pictures and trip report are here:

    Thanks for sharing, great report.

Were the VFTT people busy installing warning signs everywhere?

    Default VFTTr's

Either that, or tearing them down. Depends on which part of the group you ran into.

Great TR and pictures, guys! Glad you had a nice hike! Love the picture of Tim with Mount Flume in the background. Earl is actually "Big Earl." One of the nicest guys you'll meet on the trail! We bring a sleeping mat so we have a place to sit, or sit on our backpacks.

Great shots. Amazing how different the weather was just a few miles away.

We had the sleeping mat with us, but unless we parked ourselves right in the middle of the trail, I'm not sure it would have stayed afloat. The one spot that was packed down was right at the intersection of Liberty Springs and Franconia Ridge trails. We took a couple minutes' break there before and after the summit. It seemed like everyone must have done the same thing.

I recognized Earl from his avatar on VFTT, but felt odd going up to a group of people that I didn't know and saying "Hey are you Big Earl??"

    Default Odd

You don't have to feel odd because odd fits right in with hikers. It's OK to say "Hey, are you so and so?" That's exactly how I met Earl. He grinned a mile wide when he realized someone recognized him from his avatar.

If you want to feel odd, say, "Alligator eggs." to the people you meet on the trail. That's how VFTTr's find each other!

HAHA! Funny that you mention that! The solo hiker, Dave, that we met along the way is "Dave Bear" from VFTT and we DID talk about Alligator Eggs! It wasn't quite a "blurt it out and see how people look at you" situation, but it was still funny that it came up.
