Mashup with panoramics

Here's a little google map mashup I created. I drove around with my gps on, and took photos and panoramics (and video) and then pieced it all together for a nice little tour of the mountains.

What would be nice to collect is the GPS locations for the major trailheads and junctions. Then if someone gets into bad weather they could see where a specific junction is relative to where they are.

With the new imagery on Google Maps or Google Earth you probably could pick most of the locations visually and extract the coordinates pretty accurately. Or if someone has a GPS track of multiple hikes IT could be done in much the same way. I am not familiar enough with the landscape to do the former, but if someone wants to send the latter to me I can play with it.

Another approach would be to use a software package like Delorme's TopoUSA.
