    Question Can someone explain this?

    In the observer comments archive there is this picture and it is entitled "Phenomenom known as glory". I'm assuming the void in the middle is caused by the tower shadow. Is the rest of this effect caused by the opportune positioning of the observer to the sunlight reflecting back off of a fog bank?

    Default Distant cousin

    I think a Glory is a distant cousin of the Sun Pillar I saw last winter. I had no idea what I was looking at - took a picture and Jim Salge told me afterwards it was a Sun Pillar. This picture was taken before sunrise and the light was refracting off ice crystals in the air near the horizon.

    that is an awesome shot Brad. WOW, I would have that one framed and blown up to a nice size photo. Nice job!
