    Default whats in your pack

i do search and rescue and we have to have certain things we must have in our packs before we can go out on a search .
i know every one has there own idea what to have in there pack but what there are some things you should have for summer hikes .

this may help others with some things they did not think of .

so what is in your pack for a long day hike ?

    Mini headlamp, hat and gloves.

I usually carry my Squirt of Juice Leatherman. I'm against those massive multi-tools, but I do appreciate what you can do with a knife and pliers.

FYI--This topic has been hammered to death multiple times on www.viewsfromthetop.com/forums and www.rocksontop.com -- search these guys for exhaustingly detailed descriptions and debates about pack contents.

www.rocksontop.com - there was a series of polls on emergency gear. Looks at this list of threads, most of which have a title of "Ten Essentials":

First-time hikers, lots of info on stuff in the pack:

Winter pack weight and what goes in it:

    From VFTT:

Search for pack and/or contents and you'll get tons of information.
