    Default New plant

Every now and then I come across a new plant I haven't seen before and have trouble identifying. With some help from some folks on another forum I've got this one figured out. I saw it between The Lip and The Bowl on the way down Tuckerman Ravine Trail on Saturday.

    Woodland angelica Angelica sylvestris

Apparently it can cure whatever ails you, and makes good liqueur, too!

The flies sure loved it! I guess they were inebriated.

Kevin, this is a wonderful image of a nice wildflower and wildlife. Heve you gotten a id yet? I'll be looking for this one. Thanks for sharing.

Geez that's alot of flies. Never seen this one either...though with the legions of insects, I doubt it will be hard if I'm looking for it.

Congrats, and thanks for the education!

Apparently the flowers are UV fluorescent. Very cool! http://www.naturfotograf.com/UV_ANGE_SYL.html

I've also never seen flies like this. They were deep blue. Perhaps Blue Bottle Flies? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_bottle_fly

Don't know if they live in New England. Says they are pollinators of some flowers with strong odors so that would make sense.

    Default Wow!

I am even more intrigued by this plant now. I may have to hike back in some night and see if it's glowing in the dark!
