Jim Salge and a Memory

I was moved this morning to join the forum after once again, reading a "Jim Salge Observer Comments". MWOBS is my browser home page so reading "Observer Comments" begins my day. For years, my wife Ann and I looked forward to Jim's comments and pictures. Both always well crafted and beautiful. Therefore on 9/1/06 on what would be the last time we climbed to the summit together, we felt very fortunate that Jim gave us the member tour. Ann's joy and Jim's enthusiasm will always mark that day for me. Ann was suffering the effects of Alzheimer's Disease that day, and today has no memory of that day. So I and all who shared the trail with Ann are the keepers of the memories.

Hi Harry,

Thanks so much for the note. I considered it a privilege to be working and living on the summit, and I enjoyed sharing my experiences.

It has always struck me how much this mountain means to so many people in so many different ways, and I'm glad I was able to add to your memories and experiences.

Harry and Ann, having a chance to be on the summit, visit the Observatory and have a tour with one of the wonderful observers is a very special treat. I have been known to check my wallet before hiking to make sure I had my membership card and I was up to date.

A couple of years ago my oldest grandson and I hiked to the summit on a Wednesday. Being his first time hiking to the summit I had asked Jim if he would be there to give the tour even though it was change-over day. Jim said he would do what he could to be available. We just had to be there early enough. We ended up being there in time and Jim did give us the tour. The way he explained things to a 9 year old brought out the teacher in Jim. It was fun to see both Jim and Dakota interact. When Jim explained that with wind at 231 MPH they could tie a string to Dakota and fly him like a kite, he made his point.

Jim is one of those special people who have called MWO home. They are all passionate, caring, and have a great love for the weather and this great mountain. The Observatory has years of success in selecting folks to work there and represent the organization. However it does it, keep it up.

It is great to see Jim get a chance to come back to the summit that we all know he loves - and we can be sure he will have his trusty camera with him.

I tried to get to the Kintera site and the URL did not work. Through Google I was able to get to the general site, but not yours. Can you try to give us a different URL? I see two of the key sponsors are Brookdale (my mother lived in one of their facilities and loved it) and Kindred (my niece works in one of their places in VT).
