way out on the horizon, it looks like a line of clouds, it's the ocean and that's a ship!

This can't be it. Unless there's some weird optical illusion going on.

I really do not think that is a boat. I have always been under the impression that if you can see the ocean from the summit it would be a small sliver off the coast. To me that "boat" is above a bank of clouds.

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! There is a BUNCH of great photography on this forum and I hope I can learn a lot from everyone. Here is another photo from two weeks ago of a portion of the Silver Cascade, I know it's been photographed a million times but I'm still trying to get a good shot of it. I think this one is close. Let’s see if I have this photo attaching figured out...
Hi Brad, about the boat picture. I've posted a larger, cropped version on Pbase so you can get a closer look,

We were talking to one of the auto road workers and he pointed it out to us. He said it's only the third time in his career that he could make out a ship so I'm going to have to take his word on it. You could see it with the naked eye as just a spec and it was right in the middle of the sliver of ocean. The shot was taken with a 400mm lens.
Thanks!![]()
The perspective of where the ground/horizon should be just doesn't seem to relate at all to the "ship." Assuming its a large container ship.. those are between 1100 and 1300 feet in length. It would have to closer than the mountain in the foreground to still be at that size in the pic.
I think that is a cloud and the line below it is clouds as well.

I agree it is not a ship. It is too high over the mountains that are clearly in the picture. They look like Pleasant Mt in W Bridgton. Carry a line that high over the mountains to the ocean and it should appear as a sliver. that object seems way too high to be on the ocean - and too big. Look at it and see that it is an airplane going from north to south and it makes sense.

I've been looking through some other shots from that morning tying to figure this out and I found this one, it shows a more overall view;
http://www.pbase.com/garry_s/image/104649005/original I've posted it on Pbase in full size.
It was taken at 8:59:53AM and shows the view with a 70mm lens. The close up view was taken at 9:22 am and show the ship in question has not moved, so that rules out any kind of plane...unless it's a sea plane?I'm pretty sure the top glowing strip is the ocean and the shorter one just below it is part of Sebago Lake that is refelecting the sun. Looking at the view in Google Earth from the summit prespective, the lake and it's islands match up nicely.
It was incredibly clear that day so I don't know?
Was anyone else on the summit that morning?
