These are the times when looking at the current summit conditions gets really interesting! As of 9:45, it's minus 24 degrees, windspeed 71.7 mph, and the wind chill is minus 70! Pretty impressive!

Here in Gloucester, we've given up on earlier ideas of going out for the evening. It's a relatively modest 12 degrees, windspeed I'm guessing around 30 or 35 degrees, but with the snow blowing all over the place. Shoveling out the car would be a tad unpleasant. I haven't seen any vehicle go by for ages, and it looks like an arctic wasteland out there. Happy New Year!

Sure is cold. Peak wind gust just hit almost 140 a few minutes ago. You know when you look at the forecast for the day and it says "wind chills rising to 50-60 below" that it's going to be good day to be inside. Anyone planning to join the century club today?

Pretty chilly in RI this morning as well. Got down below 0 last night and is still only up to +2 with gusty winds. Getting ready to bundle up and head out into the woods to give the snowshoes another workout with the new snow from yesterday.

We are getting some good sastrugi around the house because of the powdery snow and the windy conditions.

We had plans to go sledding today, had to cancel. It's too cold for me to even walk to the car!!

I was going to get gas in the car this morning - but decided there is plenty in the tank since I am going nowhere. I will get it another day.

Our cabin is very tight and we normally hear nothing from outside - not even a snowmobile going by. But, right now I can hear the wind in the tree tops.

Our power went off for a few minutes this morning - generator kicked in - but we are back on street power now. I am sure lots of folks will be without power with these winds.
