Christmastime in Germany

I always felt the Christmas spirit much stronger in Germany. The local burgs would have a church gathering where you could go as a community and sing carols and drink Gluhwein (why can't I use an umlaut here?) or hot chocolate and feel like Christmas was right there. I miss those days.

Here's a pre-christmas dawn in Ramsau. You can feel the spirit.

You snagged a nice instance of that web camera. It is interesting that the church is raised up on the right side of the stream. In the winter on a clear day the church is in the sun but most other things are in the shadow of the mountains.

My Mom lived in Germany, but during the war...

She was born in Romania, then moved to Germany when she was 19, came to the United States in 1952.

She was very poor and lived on a farm, she was sent to other cities to work and send money home. She worked watching children, in hotels and kitchens. She has alot to tell, some good and some bad. But she always says how beautiful the country is with all of the mountains and especially stories of Christmas and how it was there.

She has gone back there a couple of times, always offers to take me, but I refuse to fly......

It is a lot easier if you just get on a plane instead of trying to fly. You sit there - they shake the plane a bit - run a movie past the windows to make you think something is happening - and they let you out at the other place. It is pretty simple. Try it - you will love Germany.
