    Default Loons

Did anyone notice the fact that Brad started a thread about loons?

Great photos, all, but that last one by Brad's son is a cover shot!

The last few from Kevin and Brad are just awesome!

We've been lucky enough to be in a couple of spots the last few summers where there were lots of loons around. Until last year we never got very close with the exception of the time the family in my first post swam by us. Last year the lake was just full of them and they were around all day long - not just morning and evening like ususal. We'd be out paddling the kayaks and they would just pop up out of the water next to us. Didn't seem to be at all concerned about us being around. It was very cool. There were a couple of eagles that were regularly cruising over the lake as well and stopped to perch in trees along the shore a couple of times and stayed while we paddled up to them. Pretty amazing.

These are all wonderful pictures but I really like Tim&Vals with the baby on the back. Great shot.

Val wins the "loon of the day" award! That's one way to keep them from diving under when you get close enough for a picture. This one sure doesn't seem to be too concerned. How far away were you?

It is hard to get close to a loon AND be on the correct side to have the lighting right. Tim & Val that is a fantastic photo.
