    Default Mt. Washington oil painting

As an auctioneer, I come across some interesting things. Some things I wouldn't expect in NC.

A tragic story....I recently visited an elderly lady to consult with her about some items she wanted to sell. She was in an assisted living situation and had tragically lost both of her children. She no longer had anyone to leave her belongings to when her time came.... She had the usual items...but my attention was diverted to a painting on the wall. The landscape looked familiar.

"Oh, that's Mount Washington," she said. "My son painted it, but I'm sure nobody around here would want it."

I told her about my stay on the mountain and we traded some stories. I could only imagine how nice even a short conversation would be to her.

Before I left, I made her an offer. I told her that I'd contact the folks at the summit to see if they might want the painting for their wall somewhere. If they did, I'd donate the cost and effort to get it there for her. That way, it would be in the right place.

Its a simple painting - oil...but probably painted by someone who loved the area.

    Interested?

(Can't seem to attach the file since it requires a URL) I'll e-mail it to anyone who wants to see it.

What a cool story. I am sure you made her day.

Actually, I drive back and forth all the time. We could probably make arrangements for me to deliver it to N Conway if MWO wants it.

That IS an awesome story, I agree Brad. You did a wonderful thing, and probably made an old woman very happy that day. I would love to see the painting myself.

I think I know of 2 people in NC that would like the painting **giggles** but you are right, it definitely belongs up here on display for everyone to enjoy.

Brad, that would be so sweet of you to deliver it on one of your many long treks up here.

And if it won't fit on a wall at the Observatory, I am sure they can find a place at the main building in Conway

Would you like to send me the picture, and I can post it for you?? As I said I would love to see it!! You can send it to mscntry@hotmail.com

    Default Picture Loaded!!

Here is the painting that has been in discussion. It is beautiful. Time and I do believe that it would make and excellent addition to the Observatory, and what might really make this elderly ladies day is if maybe we can get a picture of the MWO Crew in front of it once it gets here. That way it can be presented to her for her generous donation of her late son's painting.

    Time,

How big is the painting? Let's get an answer from Scot - and then if they do want it brought up, we can make arrangements for me to get it from you. Gee, i might have to go back to NH soon! (I am in NC now)

From my memory I would think that it is about 36" or so on its longest dimension.
