    Default Hedgehog.

At the recommendation of our very own KD Talbot, I persuaded my dad to go with me to a cute little mountain sitting on the slopes of Passaconaway by the name of Mount Hedgehog. It was an awfully cute little mountain - kinda like the Mount Major of the White Mountains. Gorgeous views for such a little mountain - I think it was only about 26 hundred or so. We certainly intend to return, hopefully bring my...less athletically inclined...sister with us to get a taste of hiking. Sort of a 'gateway mountain' kinda thing. Anyway, pictures:

We think this is Tripyramid, but we weren't sure.

I thought this one (looking north) was Carrigain, but my dad thought it was Willey.

This is our new hiking companion, a golden retriever named 'Odin'.

    Passaconaway from ledges partway up.

    Lastly, our other traveling companion:

A swell little mountain indeed; I'm glad you mentioned it, Kevin.

    Default Glad you liked it!

Yep, left to right, South, Middle and North Tripyramids. And, (how often can you do this?) you can tell your dad you were right and he was wrong, that is Carrigain. Nice shots, cute dog (s).

I am planning a hike up Hedgehog - how are the trail conditions? Do i need any special gear this time of year (crampons, etc)

When we went, it was like walking up a sidewalk. Could probably have done it in bedroom slippers, if you'd had the urge. )

But that was before this snowfall. I don't know what it's like now.

    Got one so far:

Incidentally, we climbed Mount Pierce today. T'was lovely, but near the top it got downright nasty. Could barely make out the trail, and the cold combined with the wind and 5 foot drifts of snow made the last quarter mile or however long it was more treacherous then anything I've ever been on before. Here's my brother, dad, and a friend beginning the descent:

And some neat snowed-in trees. Look at that stunning view - you can see all the way to Canada.
