My former post didn't address the unxpected snow -- I'm glad you guys were okay...Yeah, the weather forecasts are so frequently incorrect, yes?

Your TR still makes me want to hike the AT though. That one picture of visible brown trail through the open area....and the picture of you folks crossing the stream...lovely.

You're right.. lots of history in this area. There are places along the ridgelines where you see trenches or walls, that I'm sure are artifacts of the civil war. From many spots you can get great views of activity in the low lands below.

I actually live about a 10 minute drive from Gathland park. The memorial arch and old farm are interesting sites often overlooked.

Thanks all for the compliments! Since I was on the verge of a cold and NyQuil induced sleep when I wrote it, I neglected to add a link to the rest of my pics. There are some panoramic spots in there that came out decent (nothing like spyboy's pics, but they aspire to be.)

Excellent pictures Bluedog. Its a shame that people have to put all that graffiti on the rocks. When looking at the pictures just make me want to get out there. Arrugh may be a couple of weeks before I get to go again. Thanks for sharing.

I traversed the AT a week ago. I walked from one side of the trail to the other side.
