    Default April 17th-19th.

What do you think about a mid April attempt? Do you think it will be too slushy/muddy below the treeline, maybe lots of postholing on the Lion's Head winter trail? My group has skiing and snowshoeing experience on the mountain but this will be our first summit attempt. We are blocking out Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the inevitable case the weather may prevent us from safely making summit. Thanks for any insight.

    Default April

Have been there in April. Yup, it will be wetter and slushier, brook crossings more difficult, but still completely doable. Falling ice in The Bowl is a definite concern, not so on Lion Head.

This is peak ski season in Tuckerman.

Tuckerman Ravine Trail is mostly rocky if the snow melts off, otherwise it will be well packed with snow. I wouldn't worry about mud on that side of the mountain.

Not sure I've ever worried about slush either. The snow might be soft if it is warm, but late in the season the snowpack is usually consolidated.

The Inferno Race is that weekend and we are planning on being in the bowl to watch the skiing if the weather is good. Here are the pictures from last year that weekend to give you an idea of conditions.

Do not expect to be alone that Saturday.

Thanks guys, sounds like a great time. An event plus a weekend of hiking, perfect timing - my only concern I guess will be parking, but I'm sure I will be able to park if I l get to the trailhead by 6ish. Great pictures too - all of you.
