Default Tuckerman Ravine sunrise - 3/17/2009

Corey was back in town and agreed to join me for trying again to get sunrise pictures up at HoJo's. One never knows what sunrise will look like. So, we agreed that I would pick him up at 2:30AM. He accused me of always getting there early, so I waited in the car at the end of the driveway till I was only 5 minutes early. Then I drove down to get him. Unfortunately, he thought I was getting him at 2:45AM and again accused me of coming way too early. A great start to the day. Other than that, Corey was pretty quiet on the drive to PNVC - it was early for him.

We got set in a pretty empty parking lot - no wind this time - a lot warmer and hit the trail at 4:00AM. Pulled in to HoJo's at 6:00AM after traveling on a crusty but easy with microspikes trail. Set up the cameras and laid out lens on the table.

Tried a star shot again with a bit more luck, but the moon had just gone down and probably too much light up there.

A nice shot off the porch and we thought the sunrise had promise.

Then we moved down the trail a bit past the toilets and there is a nice clear view of wildcat from there. Went up on a 5 foot snow drift and planted the tripod and took shots there for a while.

Caught a few nice panoramas by the building.

After a bit we packed up - talked a bit and we were back at the car in 50 minutes. A very nice easy hike before breakfast.

From the PNVC I took a few pictures of Huntington Ravine

It was a nice time and probably the last hike for this trip north. We head to NC on Monday.

Another successful morning Brad. Really like the sunrise shots in this set (particularly the first one with least light and the third one with the cloud highlights). You're definitely getting the hang of this. Another dozen or so tries and you'll have it down to a science. Of course probably more times will be necessary to hit all the right conditions, etc. . I'm sure Corey won't mind a few more early mornings.

I think my wife rolls her eyes when I say I am heading back up there - again. I am not sure since I am out the door already.

    Brad,

Silly question being new to posting here; but how are you uploading photos with the higher quality and inserted into the text?

My attachments to my posts are a mere 30kb max. even though the original was multiples higher.

    tks

A quick reply once again using another's words. This post was originally by Forest Gnome

") Your photo must be hosted on another website. ( you will actually insert the url into the post, which will result in your picture appearing in the post) If your pics are not already on the web, try Photobucket. (Google it). It's free and easy to use. (There are other sites like Webshots, etc.)

    2) Once you load your photos onto Photobucket, place your cursor on the thumbnail. A few different linking options will appear below. Click on the bottom option "IMG CODE". Now the url is stored on your mouse.

    http://s96.photobucket.com/albums/l190/forestgnome/

    3) Now go to your post on the forum and put the cursor wherever you want the pic to appear. Right click, then click "paste". Done

You can try it by clicking the link above. This is a page in my album on Photobucket. Try getting the url and pasting it right on this thread."

I am a manual guy - on Fotki where I host my pictures there is a button which opens up several options to share the image. The first one on the list points to the JPG file I want to post - not the thumbnail you normally view. The format is like

    http://images45.fotki.com/v1451/phot...W_1959g-vi.jpg

I copy that to the clipboard and then in the post I add with no spaces.

The picture shows up in the post but is served off the Fotki site.

There you go, two of probably many ways to skin that..... err maybe that is an idiom that I don't want to pursue

In anycase two ways to the end that you want. And please, share the photos
