    Didn't know they had a name but we had them form in the valley in CA where I grew up. In the school yard, they would form and we would add to them by making our own. They were cool to play around but we had to be careful as they sometimes had a tipping over danger to them. When they got several feet high, we were banned from going near them. Cool though. Would be neat to do time-lapse of them forming.

    If I remember right, they are big in the mid west states with lots of flat prairie land.

    We just called them snowballs when we made snowmen

    It's amazing that they are naturally made...I would have guessed it was a crop-circle hoax type thing.
