A different fundraiser hike on Mt. Washington

They do something they are calling a double summit, with one descent going down the Cog. All the money raised is being matched (which is really nice) and goes to the Museum of Science in Boston.

This is neat how their double climb is the Ammo Tucks combo. Would think that they would have choosen the Jewell as the 2nd decent but I guess the reason is the Jewell doesn't end in the cog parking lot. Nice to see another great organization be able to raise money hiking Mountain Washington. Hope they will have a Blue Bird Day.

I reviewed the web site and have more questions than I got answers from the site. There is a single summit - Cog base Station - summit and back to Cog. Which trails are used up and down?

When they do the 1.5 and double they go Cog Base Station - summit - down Tuckerman Ravine (Headwall I assume) - how far down? Just to the base of the Headwall? Or to HoJo's? Or all the way to PNVC?

For the double, what trail is used going down after the second summit? Seems they are focusing on Ammo up and down for the west side segments.

Rex, your comment about the Jewell not going down to the Cog Base Station parking lot confuses me. Near the end of the trail there is a junction - right goes to the hiker's parking lot - left goes to the Cog base Station. What am I missing?

When descending the Jewell Trail I have always headed directly to the hikers parking lot. I never realized there was a cut off for the cog parking lot but Brad is 100 percent correct. There is a cut-off that brings you directly to the Cog parking lot. In reference to the double I had the same ? as Brad. For the double do they go all the way to Pinkham?? The hours don't seem to match if they drop all the way to Pinkham. If you do a double from the cog parking lot to Pinkham and back and do it in 12 hours that seems to me to be a really good time to me.

I always park at the Cog Parking Lot (last area on the right before the lot by the building). That way at the end of the day I am close to rest rooms, water and the car.

The double would be interesting to go Cog Base Station - Ammo - MW summit - down Tux Headwall - HoJo's - up Lion Head - summit - down Jewell - Cog Base Station. Trying to hit PNVC adds a lot of double hiking to the event.

It all sounds like a lot of work to me for one day of hiking. Challanging to say the least. (For us flatlanders I'm talking)
