Autumn Moose

Greetings all. A group (8) of pro/semi-pro photographers and I are going to be staying in a house near Bretton Woods from October 3rd - the 6th. I was wondering if any of you could direct us to (or better yet, SHOW US) some good spots to see Moose in the area. We're willing to drive. If any of you are interested in meeting up with us and helping us out with this we'll buy you dinner or something. Also, any of you that just want to shoot with some fellow photographers are more than welcome to join us as well, but moose advise would be much appreciated. My friend and I were up this same weekend last year and say 8, but no bulls. We were up in Gorham.

I will be up the weekend after you, otherwise I would show you a couple spots I know of. My favorite place is Moose Alley up towards the tip of Rt. 3 after Pittsburg. Others say they see moose on the Kancamagus Highway between Lincoln and Conway.

Forestgnome knows where all the moose are as he knows how to talk to them. He might just keep their whereabouts a secret though.

Well, for the most part, the further north you go the more likely you will see moose. Pittsburgh is known as Moose Alley. Being at Bretton Woods you will have a good chance to see them going east on 302 towards the Highland Center. It's not so much where as it is when. Be out at dawn and dusk. Poor shooting conditions, but that's when they're active.

The other good spot is Route 16 from Gorham to Errol. Much closer than Moose Alley up at the Canadian Border.

Thanks guys. I had good luck at all of those places EXCEPT moose ally. Go figure. I emailed "nome" but he's not talking. We're looking for some places away from the usual tourist trail.

I did respond to a message from you; I think it was a foward that I received?

Anyway, nothing really to add that hasn't been mentioned. As Kevin says, it just timing and it helps to be out at sunrise and sunset. I would add that sunrise is much better because when you spot at sunset the workable light is dissapearing fast. At sunrise you can better take your time.

I may be up in the Moose Alley area that weekend on safari as a birthday gift to myself. Look for a white GMC pickup with moose photos on the rear window
