If I walk about a mile to the highest part of town I could see the NYC Skyline. I would trade that for this any day, you are Very Lucky!!

My local hikes certainly can't compare to anything in the white mountains, but they're not bad. I live in New Paltz, NY, just east of the Shawangunk mountains. There's plenty of hiking there, with nice views of both the ridge and the Catskills in the distance. They're small, but with nice features and they're close - no more than a 10 minute drive to the trails.
Here's a few pics:
Wow beautiful pictures. I wish I lived 10 mins from something like that.Oh well soon I hope. Only problem in your pictures is that person is way to close to the edge. For me anyways I would probably on my butt and still not that close. Thanks for sharing.
I agree, beautiful photos. The area looks fantastic. I have local areas to hike, but nothing like you have. Enjoy!![]()

No freagan way I am that close. What you shooting with Canon or Nikon?
I hear ya about being commited. I have the 5D Mark II and a 100-400L,16-35 2.8L,28-135, saving for 50mm 1.2L etc, etc, my father in law has all Nikons. Probably about $40,000.00 worth and we always pick on each other. But either one great products. Look forward to more of you pictures. Just not so close to the end.
I will vouch for the "gunks" as well. While there is no treeline there, the scrub on the ridge is pretty low in the exposed places. Sort of like Monadnock at least in years past fires, both natural and man-made have kept the tops down. The hikes from Lake Mohonk through Minnewaska, and Awosting to Cragsmoor and beyond are wonderful. While it has been a few years since I was up there, the memories are vivid in my mind. I know I have a few photos of Katykill falls that I will have to dig up and post.
