Unlike Mark and his family that got to go on a spectacular Yosemite vacation this year(thanks again for the beautiful photos and fantastic TR)we spent our time doing daytrips with much of that time spent visiting area zoos.
Anyone who is familiar with me through the forums knows that we are animal, wildlife and nature lovers.I will try to take you on a journey through the animal kingdom in photographs.Hopefully there is alittle something here for everyone to enjoy.
First we have a few for the bird lovers in the forums:
An elegant peacock:
A sleepy looking cockatoo:
The striking beauty of a Hyacinth Macaw:
Portrait of a rare Black Swan:
A statuesque Great Blue Heron:
And now a variety of exotic and not so exotic birds that yours truly has no idea of what they are(Help from knowledgable forum members would be greatly appreciated)
Now onto more familiar members of our forest family. These next few photos were inspired by our own Forestgnome:
Quite an impressive rack of antlers:
A very large bull elk letting us know who's boss:
Now we go Downunder to visit a very thirsty little Wallabee:
A lovely llama looking for a handout:
Mama and baby Dromedary camels enjoying a meal together:
Zebra at rest in an open field:
Now we take a journey into the land of the big cats!!!
First we have an African Serval. This cat has been bred to domestic housecats to create the Savannah Cat breed. In the not too far distant future we may see a forum member(He knows who he is)hiking The Rockpile with a pair of these by his side.
Ramses is a rare White Lion.At the age of two he was pure white. Now a few years older his coat has darkened somewhat. He is one of only 350 White Lions known to exist:
Ramses shares his life with two beautiful lionesses Kayla and Layla. Here one of them hides in the shadows:
Taking a "cat nap":
And lastly waking up and showing us those incredible canines(only a dental hygienist like myself could appreciate this I'm sure)
Hope you enjoyed coming along on our vacation with us through the animal kingdom!!
