NEWS FLASH - NEWS FLASH - NEWS FLASH
We have a winner! The F6 this morning reports that the summit got 5.6 inches of snow yesterday. Therefore, Breeze wins this year's First Snow contest.
Being the winner allows her, according to the contest rules, to go back into Tuckerman Ravine and make a huge snowman all by herself. She does not need to go by herself. It is the making of the snowman that is all her glory. Congratulations to Breeze.

Thank you all!
Don't for New Hampshire minute think I'm going into Tucks straight away to build a snowman! This isn't snowman snow!
Road crew reports today indicate serious drifting, hard, icy, compacted windblown stuff with the addition of stubborn rime over glaze ice. 4 FOOT snowbanks at 6 mile park, dusting to 1/2 inch at 3800 feet.
ALL the summits up in the notch are vanilla frosted today down to that 3800' , when they were visible between squalls.
We had fleeting views this morning of Boott Spur and Left Gully. It is seriously white up there. Not the place to be heading for right now unless one is truly prepared for full-on-worst-of-winter and ready to turn around.
My warm and dry prize of yesterday was great, but obviously I'll be finding my winter work gig SOON. Happens every October, and I am sad to be away from the place until mid-May. I'm glad that I can stay connected through this forum.
( hey-- it was just a lucky guess).

and happy "climbing season" to all..... wish I was there but won't be untill mid December..... In the mean time I'll be dreaming of your mountains daily and before to long I'll be getting the file out to clean up my crampons & ice tools![]()
'when it starts to hurt your nearly halfway and probably should get out those ropes & put your crampons on"
It is nice to see how other people react to weather when there is considerable snow around.
There are certainly a large number of people who are not afraid of the snow.
