'when it starts to hurt your nearly halfway and probably should get out those ropes & put your crampons on"
Thanks, Tim! I don't know what's going on with the link. It worked fine for quite a while after I first posted it (I could tell by the number of people from MWO clicking on the particular post--it showed up in my blog stats), and then apparently it stopped working. Whatever you did to it seems to have made it work again.
Great stuff everyone! There are definitely some great options for this kind of scrambling in the Whites. The Tripyramid north slide is definitely the most fun we've had (at least in NH - the Precipice in Acadia is still #1 on that list). I'm afraid of heights too but these were fine for me. Not sure if we'll get Huntington but I'd like to do Flume Slide at some point. I also feel a real need to get to the Smokies after seeing that view Jenny! Highhiker - after you do Flume Slide we want a full account!!!

mtruman, no problem. I'm planning on heading up 10/24, but I'm keeping a close eye on the weather and trail conditions at this point. I might have to buy some Microspikes for the scramble.
higghiker/Mark - The Flume Slide has been one of my favorites to date. It was such a huge accomplishment for me and certainly my most challenging hike to date. I was very nervous and the anticipation up to the slide head was a killer. But, I brought a long a buddy who had climbed it before and that gave me a lot of confidence. It was tough for me, but so much fun. Check out my account of this here. You should definitely take your microspikes with you.
Have a great time.
