Old weather data

The F6 forms since Jan 2005 are available on the weather page here, but does anyone know how to get daily data from before then? I tried the NCDC website, which has a ton of info that's available in comma-delimited form and can be brought right into a spreadsheet--but they didn't have anything listed for Mt. Washington for some reason, at least not that I could find.

I emailed the observatory, and they gave some help in terms of where I might find this info (likely for a fee), but I'm hoping that someone out there has already found the old daily data, or at least knows where I can find it. I'm interested in all the data for as far back as it's been kept.

I was able to find info for 1948-2006, so all I need now is the early data from before 1948.

Anyway, I put the data that I found (continuous for feb 1948 through dec. 2006) into a spreadsheet and found the following 'records' over that time:

consecutive days at or below freezing (32f) :
110: 12/5/1962 through 3/24/1963
average high: 12.7 ; average low: -4.6

consecutive days at or below zero:
12: 1/21/1961 through 2/1/1961
average high: -9.9 ; average low: -24.5

That's some interesting data...keep it coming.

110 days below freezing? That's the entire winter. I wonder if they made it close to freezing during that period.

Only in two of the 110 days did the high get to 30 or higher--one day at 31 and one day right at 32.

I can do other searches on the temperature data...like the record since Feb 1948 for consecutive days with a low of 0 or colder is:

32: 11/29/1989 through 12/30/1989

Including today (2/16), Mt. Washington has gotten to -10 or colder for 14 straight days. Here are the top marks, since Feb. 1948:

16 straight days: 1/18/1961 through 2/2/1961 (avg low: -23.1)
14 straight days: 2/10/1968 through 2/23/1968 (avg low: -24.9)
14 straight days: 2/3/2007 through 2/16/2007 (avg low: -19.4)

Obviously that last one is still on-going. Looks like it might get one more day added before more mild weather ends it.

In January 2004 the low temp ranged from -41 to -45 for 4 straight days!
I do not remember how balmy the high temps became on those days....

Guess that last streak finally comes to an end, still at 14 days in a row. Looks like the lowest temp recorded today was -5.
