It was cold this morning.

-28F on the thermometer at our place in the Champlain Valley of Vermont.

I think I saw -37F at Saranac Lake. Does anybody have other reports from around New England?

Does anybody understand the dynamics as to why Mount Washington is the coldest place in New Hampshire? Seems like an easy's the top of a mountain. But, it's more complicated than that. Yes, in general it gets colder as you go up, except when it comes to record cold events in the winter. At those times it is unique valley locations that act as sinks to collect the cold air.

But not in New Hampshire. Mount Washington holds the record low for the state.
