Embedding Facebook Images Into the Forum Posts

Hey Everyone,

Since Facebook has changed their format, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to "copy image locations" from images in Facebook. It used to be just right click and the prompt was there. However, with the new format, the image come up in a pop-up type window, and it seems the "copy image location" link is gone.

Does anyone know how to get around this new format and copy in links for pictures. Since I don't have a Flickr account or a photo database, I always copy my images form FB for trip reports.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Karl,

Unfortunately, I don't see an option to publicly link to a single photo. There is still the option to publicly link to an album, but that's it.

If you do try to link directly to a single image, the link requires you to log in.
Since Flickr and similar services are free and easy to use, you might want to consider signing up.

There are many posts about this since FB changed to the new viewer. All you have to do is press F5 when you're on the photo display in the new viewer and it will switch back to "classic". Other workarounds as well: http://www.theitechblog.com/1376/how...iewer-facebook

Hmm.. didn't know about the F5 trick. The other option is to right click on a photo in your news feed and select "Open in new tab." (I'm going to assume that people are using a modern browser, and bonus points if you don't use IE.) This will open it in the classic view as well.

Note that I've found once you get the direct path to the photo, you can embed it anywhere, no matter if you have your photos set to private or not.

Or just remove the Theater option at the end of the URL

One thing to note about the direct path to the photo - it embeds the authorization string in the URL so anyone that sees the photo where it is posted can share it with anyone else via that link. I don't think any of us here care with the kind of pictures that we're posting on this forum but if you want to keep photos from being redistributed or accessed outside of your friends then don't use Facebook for sharing.

Chrome does count! I need to start using it more. My preference is for Safari (over Firefox) since it fully supports HTML5. Microsoft will never full give in to being a standards compliant browser, which is why I build code to the standards and then just do a check to see how it looks on IE.

Regarding FB.. yup, never put anything out there you wouldn't want public. There are ways to track down the profile page that a photo belongs to from the url of the image source.
