Hey I am in for the camera rescue party except one problem, my knee is shot. Any reason is a good reason to climb the rock pile.

Rob Runkle,
So sorry for your camera... is not the camera what really hurts but the "moments" you captured on your journey...
Anyway... I'm still in shock that you were lucky and got a break in the weather on the feb. 24th.
On the 23th I started towards LCH with the ideea of camping overnight and early in the morning on the 24 trying to summit mt washington. The night was almost unbearable with -20 and the wind hauling all night btw 80-100 mi/hr. The weather was horrible, nasty and in negative temp with high wind, gusty and visibility reduced at 10-20ft the morning of 24th. We were waiting for the "open window" for couple of hours but nothing... on my reconnaissance at Crawford Path I just met 3 climbers looking for a shelter in such a bad weather. They were descending from Mt Monroe, they summited and I was told that the wind was arround 100mi/hr 500 ft above the lakes of the clouds hut !
I'm so down and jealous to find out that on the NE of mt washington you had a opportunity on that day... but I'm happy for youanother proof that weather on Mt Washington is not a joke !
just climb a mountain... any mountain !![]()
and don't make it hard if you cannot summit. always remeber LIFE is not a destination... it is a Journey. make it pleasant and you will be rewarded.
Is the dungeon still open for emergency overnights or is it closed up now??
Rumor was they were going to close it.
i'll be up on the rockpile early june, i'll check then...good luck

If your not a OBS member yet then what are you waiting for
Yeah, weather in the shelter at the Hermit Lake was very windy and cold on the night of Feb23. Even gave me second thought about summit day. Whew!!! From the observatory weather reports, it looks like the 25 and 26 were even better than the 24th...Anyway... I'm still in shock that you were lucky and got a break in the weather on the feb. 24th.![]()

Dude! I don't wanna know... <grin>with a torn tendon in my middle finger .Too much gesture??
Hahaha!
dungeon was open ! I see ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why they should close it ! I think we all. mountaineers, have to support and lobby not to close it ! I don't even want to think about the fact that I'm getting to the hut at 6.00pm at dark, hi wind, VERY low temp and not to use the shelter. I had a 4 season tent with me but I'm telling you guys.. I was already with my ice axe above my head, arm fully extended to blast the door in case that was closed ! for me Emergency Shelter means ... "use it in case of EMERGENCY". And all credits to people they came with the idea. kudos for that. hope it will remain open !Originally Posted by rockin rex
