Default The Final President - Mt Jefferson - 7/25/11

After an amazing Seek the Peak weekend we really wanted to get in one more hike before heading for home on Monday. The forecast was good, the logistics were right and there was one more president to be visited on our list - Mt Jefferson. We hiked the Caps Ridge Trail on a perfect day and for as wonderful as our hike was on Mt Adams on Saturday this one was equally fantastic. There are few things better than being above treeline in the Presidentials on a picture perfect summer day. Read on for the story and all the pictures.

I never want to see a day

    I'd rather have it thirty,
Twenty, ten, five and let it freeeeEEEEEEeeze!

Great blog post, Mark, as I mentioned in my comments on your site. This is really a super detailed account of the Cap Ridge Trail...certainly helpful to anyone who may want to hike Jefferson someday (like me)! Congrats on 26!

Awesome report, Mark! Looking at your picture of the trail disappearing into the trees (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kQwJbBjRe6...0/IMG_1903.JPG) immediately reminded me of the Hunt Trail on Katahdin (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2_nC18HtZW...icture+167.jpg). Surprisingly similar-looking trails! I'm sure I'll love Caps Ridge as much as the Hunt Trail. Have you been able to make it up to Katahdin?

Caps Ridge is a hike that I have been looking forward to for a long time and your report just adds to the anticipation!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks everyone.

Karl - you're going to love Jefferson and Caps Ridge. Glad the TR was helpful.

Owen - you're right - a quick look at the two pictures and you could mistake it for the same place. Have fun when you do Caps Ridge. We haven't made it to Katahdin yet. We were supposed to celebrate Nat's 50th birthday last Sept in Baxter (her choice of celebration) but circumstances dictated otherwise. We're both really looking forward to getting up there soon.
