Please note: the USFS is issuing a closure order for the White Mountain National Forest due to potentially dangerous conditions caused by Hurricane Irene as the storm passes through the area. The WMNF will close at 6 PM on Saturday, August 27th and will remain closed through Monday, August 29th.

    Default Just guessing...

but my bet is the real problem will be stream crossings as opposed to wind, but could easily be a mixture of both. Looking at the latest space station images shows the true scope of this storm. Irene is one big girl! Might be OK to not hike this weekend...

I think flooding is the real concern too.

I hope the the people who like the crazy dangerous adventures listen, because it looks like they will be stuck.

It's definitely going to be crazy out there. We had planned to possibly go up to hike on Tuesday but I think we'll give the water a couple of days to go down. Takes a while for 10 inches or more of rain to find somewhere to settle...

Looks like one of the best decisions anyone has made in a long time. The backcountry would have been a very dangerous place on Sunday.
