I've seen a number of couples and groups that start hiking later in the day and always wondered if they really knew what they were in for. Apparently, someone is watching over them!

Ever notice.. the idiots are always the flatlande? Did these kids not watch TV for the previous week? every one knew some kind of storm was coming.

heck when I hike in the whites, I carry foul weather gear even when the weather is gorgeous! I don't even bother hiking when I know a storm is coming!

Many times we all have seen folks starting off late. When we pass (on my way down and they are heading up), I stop and chat with them to see what they think they are doing. If the answer is a real dumb, oh, gong up to the summit - then I talk to them real frankly and tell them they need to turn around. A few times they have had kids and I have said, go a bit further - show the kids the snow - then head back down. You are not going further! And I say that very forcefully. They need someone to do a reality check with them.

Clueless? Yes. Inexperienced. No idea what they are getting into. So, they need a good chat. I have never gotten any push-back.
