New communication Gear from Delorme for gearheads and techies

I haven't been on here in a while so I hope this has not been exhaustively discussed already. I just got notice of this product from Delorme today and it seems to be kind of interesting, sort of in line with the SPOT gear

Interesting. Yeah, SPOT has something similar. My big issue with these is that the full functionality is only as good as how long your cell phone battery lasts. I use one of the Spot II trackers and with the proper batteries its suppose to last continuous for something like 12 days.

In order to communicate with the cell phone, these devices are having to add bluetooth hardware. Keeping the connection open between it and the smartphone, is battery load on both sides.

Certainly interesting none the less
