This hiker from my home town was so close to the northern terminus, what a shame.

Sad indeed. However, you can look at it another way... Better to die out on the trail within mother nature than slowly in a hospital bed.

Very sad indeed. I didn't see where it said what happened to him. Anybody see anywhere else what happened?
Very sad indeed! But I completely agree with Blue. Chris, I think he had a stroke. KathyC has a good link on her FB wall.

I never want to see a day
That's over forty degrees
I'd rather have it thirty,
Twenty, ten, five and let it freeeeEEEEEEeeze!

Thanks Bob. I just read it on Kathy's wall. So sad but it is a place I would want to be. Sad that he only had 20 more miles. To me he finished.
I agree that I rather die hiking than in a death bed!!
Here is more information that was in my local newspaper today.

Put me on the list to spend my last moments...on a trail deep in the woods
Did I miss something on this guy's health background?
Who said he was on his death bed? He died almost assuredly because he was "on a trail deep in the woods."
I don't think anyone said he was on his "death bed." Just discussing that maybe dying while out on the trail is not as tragic an event and given the choice, some of us would think that would be a favorable way to go, versus a long slow death in a hospital bed.
